CRAZY QUILT, SIGNED AND DATED Wonderful crazy quilt. It is 65 x 73 inches. The quilt is made up of 9-5/8 inch crazy patch squares. The border design is applique. It is all hand work and very well done. On one of the pieces is embroidered "The threads of two lives are woven in one." In another area it is signed and dated in embroidery, "N.G.S Oct. 1889." The fabrics are satins, taffetas, and velveteens in prints, solis, plaids and checks. There are some condition issues. There has been no restoration. The backing fabric, a print satin or taffeta, is threadbare. There are worn or torn places throughout the quilt and a couple of places where the original fabric is missing almost entirely. There are also some places where the embroidery is missing. As you know, it is very hard to find wonderful, old crazy quilts, especially of this age. Although the quilt does have some condition problems, it is still beautiful and a rare find!
 

HAND-APPLIQUED QUILT, AUTUMN LEAVES This is a extraordinary appliqued quilt in the Autumn Leaves pattern. The craftsmanship is wonderful! It is hand-quilted, appliqued and hand-stitched binding. The large background pieces are seamed by machine. The Autumn Leaves pattern gained popularity when it was seen at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933 at a quilt competition sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Company. The background quilting on the white areas is a diamond pattern. The quilting on the peach areas is a random design. The hand-quilting is 9 - 10 stitches per inch and incredibly uniform and consistent. The predominant color is a lovely peach. The petals of the flowers are made of many, small floral prints. The quilt is approximately 88 x 88 inches and in excellent condition. There are a few small spots and a couple of small areas of discoloration.
 

PATCHWORK QUILT, OPTICAL ILLUSION This is a great, old quilt. The large quilt squares, formed by strips, creates an optical illusion as the colors in the squares create different looks. The quilt contains a multitude of old great old fabrics in blues, pinks, white, yellows, in plaids, prints, checks. The colors are more vibrant than they appear in the pictures. The close-ups are more accurate with respect to color.
 

PINK PATCHWORK QUILT This is a beautiful 9-patch quilt. The sashing is a sold-pink fabric and the 9 patch blocks are made up of print fabrics in many colors. The quilt is in excellent condition.
