ANTIQUE MEERSCHAUM PIPE IN ORIGINAL CASE This is a lovely Meerschaum pipe with amber mouthpiece. There are two hand-carved Irish or English setters facing in opposite directions. It is all original in its original leather and velvet case. It is 4-1/2 inches long x 2 inches high. The case is in used condition. Meerschaum pipes are very popular because of the nature of the material from which they are made. Meerschaum is a rare mineral similar to a light, hard clay. The light and porous qualities of the material keep the smoke cool and smooth. Because the pipe absorbs the nicotine, it slowly changes color to tans and browns. The pipe becomes more valuable the longer it is smoked because of this color change.
 

MAJOLICA STYLE PIPE TOBACCO JAR Majolica-style porcelain pipe tobacco jar measuring 6-1/2 inches x 6 inches. We believe it is Handel, but have not been able to confirm that from marks. That company operated in Connecticut and then New York City from 1885 to 1933. It has olive green exterior with man smoking pipe and floral design on the front. Lid has a pipe on top. Written in pen under the lid is "Aug. 1927" Marks on bottom: 6617 7 0. This is in excellent condition except for a small flake, about 1/8 inch, on the bottom corner of one of the legs.
