IRISH EMBROIDERY NEEDLEWORK IRELAND
Exceptional vintage embroidered needlework piece. The embroidery is on a black background. In the center is a large tree with clasped hands, a sunrise, harp, dog and house on the right and a flag, crest and eagle on the left. It reads "United Ireland" on the background. In the center banner (at top of tree) is "Ulstea." On either side of the clasped hands is "Connaught, Leinster" and under the hands is "Munster." The embroidery on this piece is EXCEPTIONAL. The stitches are very precise, dense and extremely well done. The lettering, gold trim around the lettering, circle and design around the clasped hands and harp are created from rows of what appears to be a very fine gold-colored trim laid side by side with couching stitches keeping it in place. The embroidery is in excellent condition. There are a few loose threads in the ground area (long, satin stitches that are loose) and one area on the lower left side near the flag where the embroidery is not as tight as the rest of the piece. It appears to be in otherwise excellent condition. It is professionally matted and framed (under glass) in a lovely copper-looking frame with beaded trim. It has the brown, archival paper on the back. The frame is in excellent condition. The frame is 23 x 28-1/2 inches. The sight size of the embroidery is 15-1/2 x 21-1/4. It is not dated. I have not removed the embroidery from the frame for inspection. My description is based on inspecting it (with a magnifying glass) through the glass.
