This great gutta percha Union Case with ambrotype is in EXCELLENT condition. It was made by Holmes, Booth & Hayden, makers of "Daguerreotype, photographic and ambrotype goods, of every description." The gutta percha case is in excellent, near-mint condition. There is one pinhead-size nick on the edge of the case. The hinges are original. The interior velvet is also in excellent condition. The case is 3 inches x 2-1/2 inches. The gilt interior frame is in excellent conditon and is 2-1/2 x 2 inches. The picture is of a distinguished-looking gentleman. There are a couple of small "splotches" on the ambrotype but the image is dark and clear.
