This is an pocket calendar made of ivory that was used by the Victorians, circa 1890 - 1910. It has six pages - one for each day of the week except Sunday - which are labeled. These ivory pages form a tablet with two covers. The tablet is held together with a silver pin and silver latch at the top (probably 800 silver). The latch works. The front cover has a silver decorative shield. There is a hairline crack (on the front cover)from the bottom edge through the pin which is about 3/4 of a inch long. There is also a hairline crack on the back cover (showing 1/4 inch on the exterior of the back cover), extending from the pin. On the interior of the back cover, the crack runs through the pins. There is also a hairline crack on the front cover next to the latch. It does not show on the exterior of the front cover but is visible on the interior of the front cover. I think these show on the pictures. The calendar is 2-1/4 inches long x 1/3 inches wide. The calendar was used and shows remnants of writing on the "pages." This is a beautiful example of the everyday, Victorian lifestyle and is a great "go with" piece for collectors of Victoriana. Enjoy! |
