The scene in this painting by Rolla Taylor is of Mitre Peak, Alpine, Texas. The back is signed to Bob Payne, another San Antonio artist. This is an oil on board. The canvas (or board) size is 10 x 14 inches. Framed it measures 13 x 16-3/4. The painting is in very good condition although it probably could benefit from cleaning. Rolla Sims Taylor, 1871 - 1970,was born in Galveston, Texas, raised in Cuero, and later moved to San Antonio where he received his art instruction. He studied with Jose Arpa, Theodore Gentilz, and Robert Onderodonk. Taylor is known for his paintings of San Antonio scenes, particularly old houses, the missions, scenes along the San Antonio River, the Irish Flat and Mexican subjects. |
