Richard Florsheim was born in Chicago in 1916. He studied first at the University of Chicago and then went to Europe where he studied independently in France, Italy, Central Europe and the Near East. Florsheim served in World War II as a Naval Lieutenant and was assigned to the Hydrographic Office and Office of Research and Inventions. As testimony to his versatility, he was the proud possessor of patents on radar applications invented. His work has been included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Metropolitan, Library of Congress, N.Y. Public Library, among many other important exhibits as well as museums in sixteen foreign countries. He was Instructor at the Contemporary Art Workshops (in the 1960s), and a lecturer at the Adult Education Council of Chicago.
